Nature
is the largest and greatest pharmacy. Over the centuries, man has
discovered in and through nature countless ways to detoxify the body,
cure illnesses, prevent them from recurring and maintaining his/her well
being. Plants and herbs have been our
healers for centuries, and are still the best way to ‘get to the root of
the problem’. Indeed, Prevention is the preferred key to good health,
and there are many herbs to detoxify, rejuvenate and heal the body,
keeping it balanced and healthy.
Herbal
Medicine, or a.k.a. Herbalism or Botanical Medicine, taps the
therapeutic or medicinal value in herbs. Today, science has isolated the
medicinal properties of a large number of botanicals and their healing
components are extracted and synthesized for use in pharmaceutical
preparations.
The
World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 4 billion people, or 80%
of the world's population, presently use herbal medicine for some
aspect of primary health care. Herbal medicine is a major component in
all indigenous peoples’ traditional medicine and a common element in
Ayurvedic, homeopathic, naturopathic, traditional, oriental and many a
native community's medicine. There are over 750,000 plants on earth.
Relatively speaking, most have not been studied scientifically.
However,
man has found numerous methods to modify nature's gifts and through the
use of science and technology, bring the health benefits from plants,
herbs and animals, to our doorstep, from all corners of the globe. These
solutions come from the hills and valleys, the sea and the sky and from
amazing sources including uni-cellular organisms (like the algae).
